The JCCWHI and Mt Sinai joined together to brighten the day for lonely seniors on 5/19/13 in honor of Shavuot.

The JCC honored Rachel Waldman, head of the Mt. Sinai Jewish Center’s Chesed Committee, at the UJA-Federation of NY’s Volunteer Recognition Event.

The JCCWHI's food pantry received a special donation, thanks to SAR high school and CableVision's Power to Learn program. The presentation on March 12, 2013 (click here for a photo) was attended by Council Member Koppell.

2012
On Wednesday, December 12, 2012 the JCCWHI held an annual Chanukah party. In attendance were 150 local seniors as well as several elected officials and representatives of the NYPD. Click here for photos.
JCC of Washington Heights was awarded a grant from UJA-Federation of NY to run a special project for Jewish Social Action Month (Cheshvan/Oct). Russian-speakers of different generations came together for a wonderfully rich conversation followed by a hands-on volunteer project. For photos, click here.

Debbie Hes, Executive Director of JCCWHI, was honored at Met Council's Annual Legislative Breakfast on June 3, 2012. Debbie received the Shimon Zweig Memorial Award in recognition of her efforts to alleviate poverty and provide high quality social services. Click here for photos.
As part of the Flattening the Hills initiative, the JCCWHI convened representatives from local Jewish institutions for a capacity building workshop, on February 1, 2012. Click here for photos.
The Jewish Community Council of Washington Heights-Inwood runs the only kosher food pantry in Upper Manhattan. The pantry is usually open Tuesday-Thursday from 11am-1pm, serving an average of 300 households per week. However, on occasion we are forced to close the pantry due to a lack of food and we have to turn people away.
